For a bookend it is kind of weird since it doesn’t fit the full length of a shelf. However, using this on top of a desk or on top of your bookshelf for a bit extra book storage space it works very very well.

You can put files, papers or similar items in bookend. But I don’t’ think you can put books in it. Anything heavy that leans will spread hold wider let it fall. There should be a locking screw that you can hold a certain width in place.
